subscription faqs

How does a soup subscription work?

Think CSA! Instead of a box of produce, we deliver inspired soup and Chicken Bridge Bakery's wood-fired bread on a weekly basis.

What do I get as a subscriber?

Ready-to-eat soup by the quart plus any of the following add-ons to make a meal of it:
> the "chef's wild," a fun mix of things to sprinkle on soups, slather on bread, or drizzle into a bowl.  Great for leveling up your meals!
Chicken Bridge Bakery wood-fired bread

Soups are a nice variety of tried and true favorites plus some of our newest recipes.  Each week’s delivery is chef’s choice designed to surprise and delight, always vegetarian!

Where do I pick-up on Tuesdays?

Orders are delivered weekly on Tuesdays to a variety of self-service refrigerators in Orange and Durham counties.
> Durham: Brightleaf Square
> Carrboro: Pacifica Cohousing
> Chapel Hill: Southern Village, Meadowmont + Lake Forest

Specific addresses and pick-up timeframes are listed at checkout.  All locations have at least a 6 hour window for pick-up.

What's your absentee policy?
It's flexible! Just let us know ahead of time, and we'll send a double share on another week of your choosing, or donate your order to Durham Community Fridge.

I can't eat (fill in the blank).  Can I still sign up?

We are happy to accommodate various allergies and restrictions, but need to know ahead of time. Send us a note so that we're on the same page.

How do I find out what will be delivered each week?

A newsletter goes out on Tuesday mornings describing the menu for that week. We do not publish a menu for the full 12 weeks ahead of time because what we make is contingent on the produce that we get from growers we work with.

Can soups be frozen?

Yes, most of our soups are perfect for the freezer, but are always delivered fresh via the subscription.

What kind of containers do you use?

Soups are packaged by the quart in BPA-free plastic containers that are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe.

How can my house become a pick-up location?

We are always looking for new pick-up locations to add to our delivery roster. If your home has a covered outdoor space (carport or front porch are ideal) and an outlet nearby for the refrigerator, let's talk! Folks hosting one of our mini fridges at their house get 50% off of subscriptions.

Is Short Winter Soups inspected?

We are inspected by the Orange County Health Department and have received a perfect score of 100 for the past 8 years.
